Garage Door Opener FAQ's

Question: What is the difference between openers?
Answer: There are primarily 3 types or Drives of Garage Door Openers:

   1) Belt Drive- The quietest operator available. Ideal for homes that have a room above the garage. The Belt is similar to the material on automotive tires
Maintenance: Belt will require periodic tightening.

   2) Screw Drive- Is ideal for 1-piece or Wood Garage Doors.
Maintenance: Requires lubricant to the threads in the track.
The lubricant can be purchased at: Lowe?s Home Depot Ace

   3) Chain Drive- Most economical & commonly installed. Available in Single or Double Light Motorhead.
Maintenance: Chain tension will have to be adjusted periodically

Q: How long does it take to install an operator?
A: Approximately 1 hour.
Q: How long does a Garage Door Opener Last?
A: There is no set time, BUT keeping your Garage Door in optimum condition, and following routine maintenance will help to extend the life of the Operator. FYI, on average we replace operators that are around 10yrs or older.

Q: Which Brand is best: Chamberlain, Liftmaster, Genie, Linear, Overhead.
A: This is really an issue of preference. Our company ?Prefers? Liftmaster family of products
Q: What is the Difference between an opener purchased from Sears, Lowes, Home Depot, Ace, and openers sold by CHS?
A: Operators purchased at retail stores are retail grade operators, Operators sold by CHS are Commercial Grade Operators and have a solid one piece track as opposed to sectional track which is sold by retail outlets.

Q: If I have 2 separate doors, can I purchase 1 opener to open both doors?
A: No. Oftentimes when a customer hears that the ?Opener? comes with 2 remotes, it can be misleading since each door requires it?s own Opener.
Q: Will my (existing) remotes work on a new opener?
A: Most likely no. Remotes have to be the same frequency.
Q: I have an older Garage Opener that works fine, I just need remotes can you help me?
A: Yes. The operator can be upgraded to work with current rotating frequencies.
